St. Louis Rams Owner Stan Kroenke Took A Giant Dump On The City Of St. Louis On His Way Out The Door
ST. LOUIS – The Rams and owner Stan Kroenke view their current home as a two-sport city that should no longer include football and offers a stadium plan that would not appeal to any NFL team, they told the league in their application for relocation to Los Angeles.
In the final section of that document, which was filed to the NFL on Monday, the Rams indicate St. Louis has fallen so far behind economically that it can no longer support three professional sports teams. Also, the Rams say the stadium proposal put forth by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s task force and the St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority (RSA) does not appeal to them, let alone any NFL team.
“No NFL club would be interested in the RSA’s New St. Louis Stadium,” the application reads. “Any NFL Club that signs on to this proposal in St. Louis will be well on the road to financial ruin, and the League will be harmed.”
According to a study cited by the Rams, St. Louis, which also is home to MLB’s Cardinals and the NHL’s Blues, ranks 61st out of 64 major cities in recent economic growth and has the lowest population growth of any major U.S. city since 2008. In bold letters, the application says San Diego and Oakland are “substantially stronger markets than the St. Louis market.” Those are assessments to which the St. Louis task force quickly offered a dissenting opinion.
“The Rams’ assessment of their experience in St. Louis after 21 seasons of remarkable support by fans, businesses and the community is inaccurate and extremely disappointing,” the task force said in a statement. “We will remain in contact with league officials and team owners, as appropriate, in the days ahead of the meeting in Houston. Otherwise, nothing has changed. We have a spectacular stadium proposal that delivers the certainty the NFL has asked for, and we are and will continue to be an excellent home for the St. Louis Rams.”
Listen, I like to have some fun with the city of St. Louis and my hatred for the Cardinals, everyone knows that, but I think we can all agree I’m never mean spirited about it. I never say things like no NFL club should ever be interested in St. Louis, or that anyone who goes to do business there is setting themselves up for financial ruin. I don’t say that St. Louis can’t support 3 professional sports teams (this technically means the Blues are now a pro team so that’s kind of a compliment). I don’t sit here and quote studies saying St. Louis is 490 out of 515 US cities and 61 out of 64 in terms of economic growth or that Oakland is substantially more viable. I don’t tell you that St. Louis is at the bottom of all US cities in terms of population and economic growth and is essentially a toxic wasteland for anyone who is trying to run a business. I don’t do any of that stuff, nope, never have never will. That’s just mean, really really mean and if you don’t have anything to nice to say, say nothing at all. Which is exactly why I wrote this blog, to tell everyone in St. Louis I will not be saying any of the things written in Stan Kroenke’s relocation application and reiterated in my blog above. You’re welcome St. Louis. Signed, real cities everywhere.
Oh and by the way, I guess I never knew what Stan Kroenke looked like but it is perfect. That’s a dude that smokes long thin cigarettes, shits on American cities, and steals designer puppies for a living. Great villian look. A+
PS
How awkward is it going to be when the Rams don’t move to St. Louis. Absolutely torched that earth. This is like when your buddy breaks up with his girlfriend and you go on a rant about how she was ruining his life anyway and she sucked and was the worst, then they get back together a week later and you just can’t be friends with him anymore. Awkward!
