This Spanish Broadcast Call On One Of Jagr's Goals Last Night Is Just Incredible

Last night, the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr scored goals 734 and 735 of his NHL career as the Florida Panthers took down the Minnesota Wild 2-1. This now makes 9 straight wins for the Panthers and are the first team in the Atlantic division to reach 50 points on the year. Something pretty special is happening right now in Sunrise, Florida and I’ve been saying this for a while but the Panthers are just one solid trade deadline acquisition away from being a really really tough team to face in the playoffs. Aside from Jagr and Luongo, they have a really young team and they’re full of talent. Throw one more pure goal scorer down there to round out their top 6 and now you’re dealing with a team who can break some hearts come late April/early May. But yeah, out of all the 735 goals that Jaromir Jagr has scored in his illustrious NHL career, I don’t remember ever hearing one called by Spanish broadcasters. And now that I have, well I don’t want to hear another one called in English ever again because that was magnificent.

Couple quick sidenotes as we have a little State of the Union for hockey in Florida here…

1) Apparently this is what the Florida Panthers uniforms will look like next season (H/t @UniWatch)

That logo sucks but the template for the jersey is definitely something that I can get behind. Has a Canadiens feel to it and I’m just glad the Panthers decided to get their redesign out of the way now before Adidas comes in and wrecks everything.

2) While the Panthers are currently on a 9-game winning streak, the other team in Florida is in all sorts of disarray. We’ve been following the Steven Stamkos saga for a while now and it continues to look more and more as if he will not be returning to Tampa Bay next season as the two sides are still far apart on a new contract. And with all of that going on, 2013 3rd overall draft pick Jonathan Drouin has requested a trade from Tampa Bay citing that he isn’t getting enough playing time and has been sent to Syracuse in the AHL. So now the Lightning are running the risk of being without both Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Drouin next year… yikes.

A few more points on a Drouin trade. 1) I think that Tampa waits to see what happens with Steven Stamkos before they even think about dealing Jonathan Drouin. 2) The return they get for him in the event that he does get traded will be tremendously underwhelming. The kid has a ton of potential but just not a ton of value right now. Think about what Kyle Turris got when getting dealt from Phoenix. David Rundblad and a 2nd round pick. This situation will be very similar so it’ll be interesting to see how Yzerman handles the situation. 3) In a perfect world scenario, I think that Jonathan Drouin ends up in Colorado playing along side his former juniors linemate Nathan MacKinnon. The Avalanche have a few prospects they could toss Tampa’s way (Tampa could get extremely lucky with Nikita Zadorov) and then Drouin will be in a position to reach his potential. Could work out decently well for both sides.
