So who is Joe Barry, new defensive coordinator for the Redskins? He is best known as the guy behind the defense of the 0-16 Detroit Lions. The guy who Detroit News columnist Rob Parker asked then-head coach Rob Marinelli, “On a light note, seriously, do you wish your daughter had married a better defensive coordinator?”

Well fuck all that noise! This is a new Joe Barry. He’s not a kid anymore. He can’t be blamed for that 0-16 team when Matt Millen drafted 100 pot head WRs in the first round in a row. When Jon Kitna and Dan Orlovsky took the majority of the snaps (a very fat Daunte Culpepper was on that team too).

Was Joe Barry the first option? Of course not. Did he only get hired because he has connections to to Bruce Allen from Tampa? Of course. But who knows, maybe he’s a diamond in the rough. I’m not going to sit here and crush the guy before we see what he can bring to the table.

I’m not excited about the hiring. He has no track record of being successful. But hey, Bill Belichick went 36-44 with the Browns. Things can change and coaches can improve. So we’ll see what happens. Viva La Joe Barry!
