An Ode To The Jofa 390. One Of Hockey's Crowing Achievements

Last night was the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year’s inductees were Nicklas Lidstrom, Sergei Fedorov former Flyers Chris Pronger, U.S. women’s team great Angela Ruggiero, former Hockey Hall of Fame chairman Bill Hay, Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos, and then of course, Phil Housley. And in Housley’s closing remarks to his induction speech, he showed a little love to one of the most memorable pieces of hockey equipment of all time; the Jofa 397 helmet. One of the all time classics. A helmet that was just as spectacular as the players who wore it. A helmet that the moment you see it, it reminds you of your childhood and watching some of the greatest to ever play do amazing things out on the ice. Now when you think of the Jofa 397, Phil Housley isn’t the first name that pops into my head. This helmet was for sure made most famous by Teemu Selanne. But regardless, it’s great to see that bucket get the respect it deserved last night and now it’s time for a quick Jofa victory lap.

Bonus: He may never have worn the 395/397, but Gretzky was still Team Jofa Over Everything.
