Giants Look To Put A Scare Into The Saints

First, it wouldn’t be Halloween weekend if I didn’t crowbar a scare in. GET IT OFF ME!!!
jppwebJPP’s return to the team has apparently sparked some excitement at practice this week. His uphill battle is symbolic of what the underdog Giants are trying to do this season & should serve as motivation for both sides. Whatever he’s got in the tank will be a big-time addition to a non-existent pass rush – but he’s not expected to see game action until at least Week 10 vs New England. Big Blue will have to handle Drew Brees & a resurgent Saints squad without him.
After starting off the season with just one win in their first five (it was against the Cowboys though, so thank you) New Orleans has caught a little bit of a groove. They’ve reeled off a pair of big W’s over the previously undefeated Falcons & Andrew Luck in Indy that were only made close in garbage time. Surprisingly, although he’s played well, Brees hasn’t been the guy that’s carried them like he’s done in the past. Their running game & +5 turnover advantage has been paramount in their quest for .500. That’s not to say the former Offensive POY can’t light it up today in front of a home crowd fueled by Halloween against a Giants defense without Prince or pressure. This is just not the run & gun offensive powerhouse that used to dominate at the Superdome.
The Giants are pretty similar to the Saints right now. Besides boasting the same +5 takeaway advantage these past two weeks, their offense has been underwhelming as well. Since their first possession against Philly a couple Sundays ago, they’ve scored just one offensive TD thanks to a dominant drive from Orleans Darkwa out of nowhere. Eli’s been mediocre at best while ODB has looked like a mere mortal thanks to a sore hammy slowing him down (although he practiced in full this week). This Rob Ryan defense is terrible though. They’re one of a handful of units that’s surrendered more yards per game than Big Blue. Their 21 touchdowns against are among the most. If the Giants are gonna break out of their funk & start turning 3’s into 6’s, there’s no better opportunity than today.
This one won’t be easy. NY’s recent history in NO is pretty ugly. It’s certainly a winnable game though, and considering the NFC East situation it’s another one they gotta have. The Cowboys are gonna have their hands full trying to beat the Seahawks with their Cassel/Weeden tandem while the rest of the division watches from their couches. McAdoo has to get all his weapons going. Let Darkwa get a couple more bulldozing carries. Get Vereen’s targets up. Then let Eli go for the jugular with a couple home run balls to a healthy Beckham. Put up a 30-spot against this weak Saints D & march on to visit the lowly Buccaneers.
