Stone Cold Steve Mason Keeps The Zombie Theme Going With His New Mask
Some oldies….
And some new.
I think it’s safe to say that Steve Mason is a little into zombies. All of his masks so far since coming to Philadelphia have featured zombie versions of either Philadelphia icons like Ben Franklin or zombie versions of his teammates. And heading into the 2015-16 season, Mase is sticking to the theme with this beauty of a new mask. Now I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure if throwing both of the Schenns on this mask was a very good idea. Actually pretty ill-advised if you ask me considering there’s a chance at least one of them will be dealt at the deadline this year. But throwing Hexy on the bucket is definitely going to get Mason some serious brownie points when it comes time to start talking contract extensions. Very saavy move right there and I respect it. Gotta do whatever you can to squeeze a few extra dollars out of Hextall. Also for some reason I love how he used old pictures of Clarke, Schultz and Hextall but then just went with how Bernie looks today since my man pretty much conducts himself like a zombie enough as is.
This season is probably going to be yet another frustrating year of wasting Steve Mason in his prime. Last season he was top 3 in save percentage, top 10 in GAA, yet the Flyers still ended their season after just 82 games because there is literally zero defense being played in front of him. Until the Fab Five of Morin, Ghost, Provorov, Sanheim and Hagg get the call up, it’s just going to be a lot more of the same damn thing. Couple in the fact that Mason is a bit injury-prone and you can see why it’s damn near impossible to be optimistic as a Philly sports fan anymore.
Preseason action gets started tonight against the Isles and we’re only 17 days away from the start of the Flyers regular season. Get hype.
