The Inevitable Has Happened: The Raiders Traded Davante Adams To The Jets, Reuniting Him With Aaron Rodgers

Don’t get me wrong. I’m very happy the Jets went out and got one of the best wide receivers in all of football. However, the secret to a happy life is good timing. Getting Davante Adams when you are 2-4 and the season slipping away is not exactly ideal timing. Adams is truly incredible. He’s already led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice this decade. I’m sure he’s elated to be leaving the shitshow situation that the Raiders are in and reuniting with his boy.

But the big question (at least for 2024) is if getting Adams is enough to get the Jets into the playoffs. The last wild card spot has a record of 3-3 (Colts and Broncos). So the Jets are only a game back. This issue is the Jets already played what should have been the softest part of the schedule. Before the bye, the Jets have:

@Steelers

@Patriots

Texans

@Cardinals

Colts

That’s not an impossible stretch but when you’re 2-4, there isn’t much of a margin for error. I think it’s realistic to say they need to go at least 3-2 in that stretch to have a chance at the playoffs.

My other concern is Adams’ health. He’s missed the last two weeks because of a hamstring issue. Is he actually hurt or was this just because he was making a trade demand. If he was actually injured, is he going to be available to make an immediate impact?

I’m guessing most Jets fans are balancing that concern about Adams and the Jets with the excitement of getting to see Aaron Rodgers throwing to Adams and Garrett Wilson every Sunday. It’s been so long since the Jets actually had an exciting offense. Even in the Mark Sanchez Era of having Braylon Edwards and Plaxico Burress to throw too, you still had Sanchez throwing the ball.

I do love that GM Joe Douglas is going for it. The Aaron Rodgers window is very short. With Saleh getting fired last week, Douglas knows his job is on the line.The Jets whole season is also on the line. The next game is in Pittsburgh against a very tough defense on Sunday night. The Jets will need Adams. We know he’s a great receiver. Can he also save a season? This two made magic in Green Bay and had insane chemistry. It was borderline telepathy at times. Let's hope there are still some special moments left to be had.
