It's Going To Be a Long, Long Redskins Season
Last night, in one word- disaster. Never have I been so fired up, so angry about a stupid preseason game. It was just ugly in every sense of the word. All 3 sides of the football. On defense nobody was tackling and tight ends were wide open in the middle of the field (the pass rush was great though). On special teams we have Andre Roberts who looks disinterested in returning punts. And on offense, well, we had this:
The offensive line was atrocious to say the least, and they weren’t running any roll outs or options for him. It was stand in the pocket and get punished, and I will say he did that like a champ. You know, minus the whole getting a concussion thing. That’s what happens when All-Pro Trent Williams isn’t in there. And not a good sign when Brandon Scherff, the 5th overall pick, couldn’t win the other starting tackle job over Morgan Moses, a 2nd year player who couldn’t even sniff the field last year. And what did Scherff do last night at guard? Got manhandled. The Oline was awful, Gruden trotted RG3 back out there for the 2nd quarter against all good judgement, and voila, concussion, a beat up shoulder, a complete lack of faith in the team, and lots of angry Skins fans.
So yea, it’s going to be another long season unless things drastically change. It’s tough. We have a head coach and a GM in here now, neither who got to pick the players. Gruden is basically on record as saying he doesn’t want RG3 as his QB (that’s the nicest way I could put that- he’s basically said he hates Griffin). And it’s fair. He’s a head coach, he should be able to pick the guy who plays the most important position on the team. It’s brutal that Gruden and Griffin don’t really get along or see eye to eye. Gruden puts up a hell of a front to the media and fans, but you know he wishes he had his own guy in there. He likely wishes that about a bunch of positions, as head coaches in the league don’t get long leashes. His legacy is being tied to guys who he doesn’t want playing on his team. It’s tough. But as a head coach he has to make due and figure it out. Right now it’s a fucking mess.
What’s ridiculous is there’s still 2 more preseason games. Does preseason ever end? We do not need 4 of these things. Let’s just get the show on the road. My blood pressure can’t handle the starting QB getting ragdolled in games that make no difference. Let’s just skip right to the regular season theatrics. I’m excited to see how Snyder and Co. will top last season. I came into last season with the mindset “there’s no way this will be as much as a clusterfuck as last season” and was proven wrong. What will this season bring? My bold prediction is GM Scot McCloughan resigns midyear. Just says fuck it, can’t take it anymore, and walks out. Would be so Redskins that I’m not even sure that’s bold enough of a prediction enough. We shall see my friends. We shall see.
