Nina Agdal DFA's Bryce Harper After The Nationals Fall Under .500
I’ll tell ya, when it rains, it pours. Just 1 home run in the last 17 games for Bryce. The Nats have lost 6 straight. 20 of their last 29. They’re now a game under .500, still 4.5 games back of the Mets, and almost 10 games behind the 2nd place Wild Card. Oh and did I mention Bryce got back together with his fiance even though he’s like 21 years old. You think Nina Agdal rolls with losers who are getting married? For sure not. On to the next one! The hottest chick on earth just straight up DFA’d Bryce Harper. Probably took one look at the standings and was like “Wait the Mets have a 4.5 game lead AFTER being swept this weekend? Someone get me Mike Trout’s phone number!”
Its hard for Mets fans to just accept the Nationals are a dumpy team. We’re in first place so infrequently that just dismissing the second place team is emotionally impossible for us. But they’re not even a .500 team anymore. They have the worst manager in baseball. All their injured stars are back and just not performing. Now, again, 4.5 games might as well be 0.5 games to Mets fans. After 7 with 17 to play, literally no lead will ever be comfortable. But at some point, if the Nats keep this up, they are straight up gonna hand this to the Mets.
Which I am absolutely OK with. You think I give a SHIT about how the Mets get into the playoffs? People are now resorting to “The NL East is terrible!” “The Mets schedule is a joke!” sort of arguments. No fucking kidding! Who cares! My favorite is “The Mets are 7-19 against playoff teams” or whatever the record is. A) If we’re gonna throw out season records for this team, make sure you throw in an asterisk stating that the first half of the season this team played with a AA lineup with the worst offense in the franchise’s history, and B) I dont give a fuck! Are we already just ushering the Mets into the playoffs? Already worrying about how successful or unsuccessful they will be in the playoffs?? Sign me the fuck up! Ask the 83 win St. Louis Cardinals in 2006 if they cared about their regular season performance. Ask them if they cared about their division or their record or their performance against the other playoff teams. Just. Get. In. Thats all I care about. Especially with that pitching staff. Who knows what can happen.
Is there a chance the Mets offense, bullpen and defense is way too suspect to compete in the playoffs? Absolutely. Is there a chance the pitching staff, as dominant as it is, is not experienced enough to carry a team in the postseason? 100%. But if we get the chance to find out I’ll be thrilled. Its Champagne Problems to worry about just how good you are compared to the other playoff teams when you’re the New York Mets. The playoffs wasnt even a remote possibility with the lineup they were trotting out 80% of this season so far. We’re already in much better position than I ever imagined. So back in. Stumble in. Whatever. Just make it to the dance.
PS – I know the Mets missed a huge opportunity to open this lead to 5.5, 6.5 or even 7.5 with this weekend. But I am 500% OK with getting swept and not losing any ground. Knowing this team has some glaring weaknesses, there are gonna be a couple more losing streaks or sweeps before we make it to the finish line. If every time we slip up the Nationals falter too, I’ll be just fine with that. Its a loser mentality but guess what? I’m a Mets fan. We’re losers historically. Beggars cant be choosers.
