Climate Activists Vandalize A $300 Million Yacht Belonging To A Walmart Heiress In Ibiza

The climate activists have had a busy summer. From dumping Tang powder all over the orchids at a flower show to gluing their hands to the streets of Munich, they're definitely leaving their mark. Their most recent target? A $300+ million yacht anchored in Ibiza that belongs to a Walmart heiress.

These goofballs are relentless. But I guess it's working, because we keep covering their antics. Gotta say, this one feels like a solid pivot. Call me crazy but when you're protesting climate issues, it makes a lot more sense to go after a massive gas-consuming machine than to deface a priceless work of art or stop traffic so a road crew can come chisel your hand out of Route 1. As far as drawing people to your cause, or at the very least, not turning normal people against your cause, this is… a step in the right direction? Feels like they hired a new CMO or something.

Don't get me wrong: they're still brutal. But it felt oddly satisfying watching the paint cover the stern of that yacht. Kinda felt like a cool street art composition. And then to see the crew of that yacht try to remove it with your basic garden hose? Funny! We're certainly not worried about the Walmart heiress getting her hands dirty. She's not rappelling down the back of her boat in some galoshes, on some wooden swing with a bucket hanging off the side, scrubbing with a coarse sponge until her hands are pruned. No way. Her family didn't sell all those frozen corn dogs to diabetics shopping for styrofoam boogie boards for her to scrub paint off her own boat.

No. She's three decks above, on a recliner, sipping a frigid white burgundy from the thinnest wine glass you ever saw. Probably yelling "get it out before 6PM, we've got the Hiltons inbound on a chopper for oysters." The activists deface, the rich have their staff restore, and the Canadian wildfires don't give a shit either way as the playground of nonsense spins on.

Serious question: is this working? Are these demonstrations moving the needle? Are there people out there who are on the fence about climate change, who happen to see a video of a climate activist gluing her hand to a Warhol, and think… by God, she's right. It's time. I'll trade in my Jeep Grand Cherokee for a Chevy Volt.

I'd say it's a safe bet to think that the people who frequent art museums might already be conscious of their climate footprint. At least they're more on that side of the spectrum, no? The lady who brings her own MOMA souvenir canvas tote to buy groceries at Whole Foods might not take kindly to you guys causing trouble in her favorite gallery wing. Just a suggestion.
