Joe Burrow Issues The Perfect Response To The Chiefs' Cringy Shit Talking As Only He Can Do

Dying out here for football content, particularly about the Bengals. So when Joe Burrow breathes in any sort of public forum about anything gridiron-related, you bet your ass it's getting blogged about.

In case you've missed the silly little spat between the Chiefs and Bengals this offseason, it all stems from A LITERAL JOKE made by Cincinnati wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. He was expressing support for Joey B as the best quarterback in the league over Patrick Mahomes. In doing so, he — to reiterate — jokingly said, "PAT WHO?" in reference to Mahomes.

Any football casual with a functioning brain knows Mahomes is the best QB on the planet. Maybe the GOAT when it's all said and done. Didn't stop Travis Kelce and Mahomes from being weird about it.

I swear like 95% of the "trash talk" the Bengals put out there against the Chiefs is said in jest. Like they're not even remotely serious about it the vast majority of the time. And Kansas City can't enjoy its two Super Bowls as a result. It will never not be funny. Their most famous fan this side of Paul Rudd is bleeding on national TV about it all.

But count on Joe Brrr to throw cold water on all this nonsense by simply saying, "The best thing about that is it's all settled on the field. So we'll see them in December."

Indeed. New Year's Eve at Arrowhead let's gooooooooooo.

In this Complex interview, Burrow also touches on the off-field bond he's forged with Chase since their days at LSU.

"We're really good friends. We have a strong bond off the field and that translates onto the field. I think everybody can see that. And you're not going to be a great team if your best players aren't close, trust each other and work really hard. And I think as a team, all of our guys that are in that position have those traits."

Hence Ja'Marr backing him and not saying, you know, Joe is the NFL's QB2. Because why the fuck would he?

Another element to the Bengals' recent run of success that Burrow touches on is how they're all relatively close in age, and that's helped defensive and offensive players mix together and hang out more than most other locker rooms around the NFL. Every time Cincinnati is written off, here come Burrow, Chase and the rest of the gang going 3-1 against the Chiefs in the Mahomes vs. Burrow era. Made it to two straight AFC Championship Games.

Last year's lazy as fuck narrative that the Bengals were going to regress was ridiculous from the jump.

I'm cautiously optimistic about 2023, but it's like…what a hell of a standard that's been set over the past couple years. You almost can't go anywhere but down. I would express some doubt and reservations if I really had them. As long as No. 9 is throwing to No. 1, and Lou Anarumo is still calling the shots on defense, I'm not gonna worry too much.

Plus I love that ex-Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is now protecting Burrow's blind side. Cincinnati offensive cooridnator Brian Callahan recently said this is the best o-line he's seen during his time with the Bengals. That's a scary thought for the rest of the league.

People forget that the latest AFC Championship Game had Burrow behind a unit that was without three starters in the trenches, and had a rookie fourth-rounder in Cordell Volson at left guard. Not to mention, CB1 Chidobe Awuzie was out. I understand injuries are part of football. Duh. I just think those who don't follow the Bengals closely are sleeping on how high this team's ceiling is and will, in all likelihood, lean on some stupid regression narrative once again this year. Oh well. Let 'em doubt. Will jsut keep winning.

But like Joey B says, talk is cheap. We'll settle it on the field. Can only hope the No. 1 seed in the AFC is on the line by the time the Chiefs and Bengals square off in Week 17.
