The Wagner chief’s broadside against the Russian military establishment has escalated tensions drastically, but it isn’t yet clear how much of a threat the situation poses to the Kremlin.

Russian generals on Friday accused a Russian mercenary tycoon of trying to mount a coup against President Vladimir V. Putin. It signaled an extraordinary open confrontation between the Wagner chief and the military, who have feuded for months over Russia’s war tactics in Ukraine.

There were reports overnight of military movements in an area of southern Russia near the border with Ukraine. And on Saturday morning, the tycoon, Yevgeny V. Prigozhin, claimed to have control of parts of the military command headquarters in southern Russia.

It was unclear how much the Wagner forces controlled or how much of a threat they posed to the Kremlin. But the confrontation already amounted to the biggest challenge to Mr. Putin’s authority since Russia invaded Ukraine 16 months ago.

In an address to the nation, Mr. Putin called the Wagner forces’ actions “a stab in the back of our country and our people” and vowed “decisive actions.”

Mr. Prigozhin has in recent months launched accusations at Russia’s military leadership. He blames Russian generals for failing to provide his forces with enough ammunition and for ignoring soldiers’ struggles.

The Kremlin tolerated his broadsides for months, even as some analysts said that Mr. Prigozhin was poised to turn his new prominence into broader political influence, possibly threatening Mr. Putin’s grip on power.

There's not nearly enough information for a dummy like me to truly know what's happening. Im not a military analyst or expert on global matters even in the slightest. But I am a military podcaster so I feel like I need to have a take despite the fact that I've been out of the Marine Corps for 11 years and retired as a mid-level SNCO. Let's get to the takes.

Here it is. The World loses. If Put stays, he'll be even more brazen than he is now. If Putin loses, Wagner Group-style people take over and they are ruthless.

The Wagner Group is a Russian private military company that started doing crazy shit in the early 2010s. The group gained infamy because of its involvement in conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, and the Central African Republic doing insanely brutal things and fighting on the wrong side of humanity.

Wagner Group uses unconventional tactics. These tactics often cause fear, civilian casualties by the masses, and destruction all over the world.

As a private military company, the Wagner Group operates outside traditional military chains of command, making it challenging to hold them accountable for any violations of international laws or human rights abuses often under the banner of Russia.

The Wagner Group is a mercenary outfit, which further adds to the terrorist allegations. Mercenaries are typically motivated by financial gain rather than ideological or nationalistic causes, and their actions are often seen as illegitimate and threatening to global security. I fought some mercenaries in Fallujah and they aren't easy to deal with. Lots have seen loads and loads of combat which is probably why they are so ruthless. When war becomes normal, you can do things that normal people would puke seeing. Wagner Group goes home and makes a sandwich when they are done.

Russia has been using them in Ukraine because they are experienced in fighting and have a reputation of being ruthless. It's a reputation that was well earned and now they are marching to Moscow as Putin reportedly flees.

But the Russian establishment aint gonna take this shit lying down. Even though he's fleeing, he's not giving up anytime soon. Putin is a KGB officer at heart.

But these hardened bros aren't likely to give a single fuck about what Putin is saying. They aren't scared and Russian troops by the hundreds are surrendering on the front lines while giving Ukraine the chance to refit.

While lots across the globe are cheering for the downfall of Putin, be careful what you wish for. The Wagner Group is filled with rapists, murderers, and some of the most violent people on the planet. Russia's aggression could get much, much worse. After all, the Wagner Group marches to Moscow because they believe that Russian leadership is being a bunch of pussies.

Will it work? I dunno. I will say appealing to everyday people is smart on Wagner's side. They are saying things on TV like, tens of thousands of Russian men are being sent to a meat grinder without reason, for a made-up war, and for no demonstrable gain in over a year. They want to change that. Wagner's chief is on the record as wanting to use a tactical weapon that would obviously be catastrophic for the world.

Anyway, after spending the morning reading and trying to understand, that's what I got. I think the best thing we can do in this situation is hope that both sides experience a little ole fashioned mutual destruction. That's the best outcome. Everyone involved dies. We can do with less Wagner and less Putin. That was true a decade ago, a year ago, a month ago, and a day ago. Today, we want that outcome more than ever.

Hope this helps. Now I just gotta keep my head on a swivel for fake videos, reports, and all that kinda shit.

As a reminder, if you're cheering for Russia and claim to be a "patriot," you are as delusional as the day is long. Russia is still bad and Biden aint good enough to have this as a distraction for Hunter like many have said. If you think that, you believe that Biden is one of the most capable leaders on earth. Additionally, if you think that, you also have to give Biden credit for getting Putin up outta here without even firing a shot. Thems the facts, dummies.

For Russia right now, the Night is Dark and Full of Terrors because this advance through a few major cities is happening like a hot knife through ice cream.
