Johnny Football Scoring A Touchdown Without Flashing A Money Sign Last Night Murdered Part Of My Soul
…
Witness…the final stage of the official transformation, right before your very eyes…from Johnny Football To Johnny Manziel.
I know he told us this was coming. I know he warned us.
PFT – Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel said today that he’s done with the money sign, which had been his trademark celebration since his days as a Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M.
“The money sign will not be back. I will not be making it,” Manziel said.
That’s because Manziel thinks it’s time for him to grow up and move on from a rough rookie season that saw him struggle on the field and end up in alcohol rehab.
“Last year is last year, it was what it was and it was not very good,” Manziel said. “So for me, I’m trying to close that chapter and just build on what I’ve done so far this year and just move forward, and try to close that chapter in my life. Not one that I’m very proud of, not one that I want to look back on very much and dwell on, that’s for sure.”
I know he tried to get all his biggest fans mentally ready. But nothing can prepare you for actually seeing it live and in color. There’s no way to fully brace yourself seeing the hero you thought you knew completely stripped of all the swag and mojo and cocky spirit that made him an icon. All in the name of “being respected in the locker room” and “trying to prove to coaches you’re a changed man so you can actually get a shot at playing time” and “showing the rest of the NFL you’re mature and not some punk kid so you can have a legit career professionally.” For shame. Sad, sad night of preseason football.
Don’t cry because it’s over…smile because it happened…
PS – Vintage Football scamper there though. Some people might think a 12 yard run in a preseason game against 9th stringers might be a little early to declare a guy “back,” not me.
