It's Time For America To Demand Connor McDavid From Canada

Last night Connor McDavid scored his 50th goal of the season in just his 61st game. He's the fastest to 50 since '95-96 when goalies were still wearing Tic Tacs as pads. Simply put, McDavid is probably the best to ever do it. We can argue different eras and how dominant Gretzky was til the cows come home, but McDavid is just...something else. Hard to put your finger on the pulse of what we're seeing with him....which brings me to my point.

It's time for people to see Connor McDavid. And I love you my Canadian friends, so don't take this personally, but it's time America demands that Canada hands us Connor McDavid. You've had your fun with him, but it's time we flex a little as big brother and get the best hockey player on Earth in our country.

And again, it's nothing personal, but he'll just be better utilized in the United States than he is in Canada. Edmonton has failed him. The Oilers are currently 3rd in the Pacific, but have a very real chance of once again missing the playoffs entirely. And we cannot sit idly and let him be wasted North of the border any longer.

He'd be way better off in the USofA for the other obvious reasons- the McDavid Effect, aka growing interest in the game. It's no secret the NHL is the least popular of the "4 Major Sports", and is always hungry for new superstars to be the face of the game. Right now they have Connor McDavid in Western Canada when he should be in a big city under the bright lights. Last time I said Edmonton wasn't a "big city" a bunch of angry Albertans tried to tell me that it actually is, but sadly with 1.4 million in the Edmonton metropolitan area, it falls somewhere right in here....

Should the best player in the world really be playing in Grand Rapids or Greenville? To quote one Kevin Clancy, "for sure not".

So, let's make it happen. We'll let the Blue Jays have Mike Trout, I think his time in LA has been proven to be just as big of a waste as McDavid's in Edmonton, so it's a pretty fair deal for all parties. Yes I know I'm trading between sports here but obviously it should be allowed in situations such as this. Someone get Joe on the horn with Trudeau and make this deal today.
