UCONN Reminds Us The Worst Shot In Basketball Is A Long Two
Coaches taught me growing up "Time and Score". Jordan Hawkins had the best intentions when he pulled the ball back out on an offensive rebound down 3 and tried to take a shot to tie the game. He did nearly everything right. Got the rebound, moved quickly , and made a super difficult shot. The only thing he didn't do was fully get behind the line. He missed by inches and his game tying 3 turns into a long 2, the worst shot in basketball, and Creighton ends up pulling out the win.
The Big East is super top heavy, but the top tier of Uconn, Creighton, Marquette, Providence and Xavier are all ranked and pesky little Seton Hall is still fighting for an at large bid. Growing up on the Big East, when it disbanded like 10 years ago from the super conference it was in the early and late 2000's , people assumed it would die off etc. Now it's no where near what it was, but it's actually gone back to it's roots of basketball first schools and super competitive. The Big East semifinal tickets will always be difficult to come by, they will also be drag out fistfights like the one we saw today.
One final thought ... Creighton dealt with some health issues and injuries early in year , but they are rounding back into shape of the preseason top ten national title contending team everyone thought they were. I worry a lot about McDermott's tournament success over the years to all of sudden break through to a Final Four, but the offensive weapons of Ryan Kalkbrenner, Trey Alexander, Baylor Scheierman, Arthur Kaluma, and Ryan Nembhard who all average in double digits may seem to outweigh McD's struggles when it matters.
Bonus ... horrible beat if you had -4 and watched this foul just not get called ...
Can't wait for March ...
