The Fact That ESPN's College GameDay Makes Picks Like A 6th Grade Science Project Is Embarrassing As It Gets
College GameDay for football season is can't miss television. Even as a College Basketball diehard , the college basketball version is bad and has been for a while. I think years ago it was great back when Digger Phelps was matching his tie to his highlighter.
`
It also felt like they traveled more, and went to different venues. Now you can almost program where they will be going with the same teams and venues. Duke Carolina is 2x a year which also seems unnecessary especially in a year like this one in which both teams stink and the game tonight has absolutely zero juice. ZERO.
Also watch Brad Stevens reaction here … guy is an alien and I love everything about it.
His quote to that shot was also one that stuck out to me to this day.
Yahoo Sports - "What goes through my mind is, the hay is in the barn," Stevens said. "If a guy makes a shot like that or doesn't, it doesn't define who we are. It doesn't affect how I evaluate our team. It doesn't break our season.
"I'm a huge person on growth over prize."
Preparation is what you should focus on, the results will play out how they play out. Fascinating way of approaching things. May try that with gambling. Prepare all week and don't scream "YOU SHOULD LOSE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP" when a kid drops a pass.
Anyway back to GameDay.
Phelps was in the peak of the show. Then he left and they brought on Seth Greenberg who only got the job because he sucks as a coach , refused to schedule anyone tough then cried about not making the NCAA Tournament. So I was out on him.
Then for a while they brought in Jay Williams who I thought would be great, but even as a Duke fan … he really struggled and did some cringey stuff.
Trying to replicate the Lee Corso headgear by ripping open his suit to pick with a jersey was painful to watch.
But the show still had good debates, gave updates on stories, had Bilas teaching points etc so I watched, but if errands needed to get done and I missed it I wasn't broken up about it. Also it feels like there is somehow way less shows then there once were. It's just not the same as it was.
I was reminded of that again today when I saw the picks segment.

Dude …. come on have some pride. A fucking rolling sheet with scotched taped logos ? You guys pay $60 million for the rights to The Little League World Series yet can't get a TV screen with touch capabilities or a smart board in for this segment ? Shit looks like a 6th grade science project for pete's sakes. We all know that tri fold poster board you made your parents go get the day before the project was due and the whole car ride you prayed they had it in stock because if they didn't your parents would bug face going to multiple stores especially on a school night.
All I hear is people don't care about college basketball this year, which is so dumb because it's a greta year and wide open with a bunch of teams who can win, but on the weekend when there's no football and casual fans are supposed to be getting into it , networks need to do better. How are people supposed to feel about taking college basketball seriously when they turn on the TV and it looks like a local cable production ? Come on …
Awful job by ESPN per usual.
