Joe Mixon Has A Warrant Out For His Arrest After He Allegedly Threatened A Woman With A Gun, But His Agent Says The Charge Will Be Dropped
Pretty harrowing scene that's being painted about an alleged instance of aggravated menacing instigated by Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon. The alleged menacing act appears to have taken place the day before Cincinnati's 27-10 Divisional Round win over the Bills in Buffalo, where Mixon had 20 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown.
This whole disturbing story is especially notable because of Mixon's personal history. Back in July 2014 prior to his freshman year at Oklahoma, he punched a woman in the face and broke it in four places. It cost him a one-year suspension. Following two more seasons with the Sooners, the Bengals drafted him in the second round.
However, Mixon's mother denied the story, and his agent released a statement explaining the charge would be dropped as soon as Friday:
Even with no legal wrongdoing suspension, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could still opt to suspend Mixon, although based on how quickly his family and representation defused and downplayed the alleged incident, it seems unlikely.
With the next men up behind Mixon in the Bengals backfield Samaje Perine and Trayveon Williams due to hit free agency, Cincinnati is counting on the former to be their feature back at least for 2023. Otherwise, he has only two years remaining on his contract, and would save $10 million against the salary cap this year if he's released with a post-June 1 designation. The hope is obviously that it doesn't come to that. At least based on the latest information, Mixon may not have been in the wrong here at all.
