UAB's Next Head Coach Is ... Trent Dilfer?!

Hell yeah, let's get nuts with this year's coaching carousel.

After former UAB coach Bill Clark — who led the Blazers to a 49-26 record in his six seasons — retired prior to the 2022 season, the school decided to go with Trent Dilfer as its new head coach. Dilfer has spent the last four seasons as the head coach at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville.

From all accounts, Dilfer has done an incredible job at the high school level in Tennessee. Lipscomb Academy went from a 3-19 record in the two years prior to Dilfer's arrival to a 43-10 mark and a state championship with him at the helm. And UAB is already a very solid Group of Five program, so I don't see any reason why Dilfer couldn't step in there and be pretty successful.

It's just funny to think that if the Blazers post a couple 10-win seasons, Dilfer could be the next hot candidate for whatever really big jobs come open in a few years. How far we've come from this moment:

I'm fascinated to watch Dilfer coach at the college level. Until Deion Sanders takes a job somewhere, this is the most interesting hire of the off-season so far.
