Cordarrelle Patterson Sets NFL Record With NINTH Kickoff Return TD On An Electrifying 103-Yard Score

What a fascinating career Cordarrelle Patterson has had. Never quite found his stride as a wide receiver. Now mostly thriving as a running back. One constant, though, has been his legendary ability to shine as a return man. And thanks to the above highlight, Patterson has broken a tie with Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington for most kickoff return touchdowns of all-time.

Patterson is simply devastating in the open field. Guys who are 6-foot-2, 220 pounds aren't meant to be that laterally quick, agile and explosive. Plus, he has excellent contact balance because of his thick frame, so it's always a challenge to tackle him in space. On this particular, historic runback, Patterson simply turned on the jets, followed a series of impeccable blocks and outran everyone to the goal line.

Kickoff return touchdowns are much more of a rarity since the NFL decided to move kickoffs up by five yards several years back. In a dome you're especially lucky to even get a crack at running one back, as most kickers elect to crush it through the end zone for a touchback. If there's anyone you do that for pretty much regardless of the circumstances, it's Cordarrelle Patterson. The Bears learned that the hard way here.
