Jorge Soler, Who Hit .223 Last Season, Is a Nominee for Best MLB Player at The ESPYs

If you thought because of that headline this blog was going to be derogatory towards Jorge Soler or ESPN for correctly having him as one of the four nominees for the Best MLB Player ESPY, you are quite sorely mistaken.

Sure, if you look at Soler's final 2021 slash line of .223/.316/.432, it doesn't jump off the page at you. But that's because you're zoomed too far out. You know what he did once he was traded from the Royals to the Braves mid-season? Put up an OPS of .882 with 14 HR in 55 regular season games before adding 3 HR and 6 RBI against the Astros to win World Series MVP. Those other three guys don't even belong on the list with Soler, honestly.

Find me another player in that group who hit a ball clear out of the ballpark in the clinching game of the World Series and we can have a serious discussion for Best MLB Player at The ESPYs — an award I have always said is far more important than the National League or American League MVPs.

Jorge should win this award going away.
