Rory McIlroy Unleashes Rage On US Open Bunker, Still Scrambles For Miraculous Par Moments Later

Even us weekend warriors can relate to having a good round of golf going, only to draw a brutal break on a slightly-off shot and have a lie that's damn near impossible to hit from. Now extrapolate that to the stage of a U.S. Open, and imagine you're Rory McIlroy in search of your first major win in about eight years.

Rory's wrath was felt at The Country Club, but once he blew off some steam, he was able to regroup, splash out of the bunker, and absolutely drill a clutch par save:

I realize that first bad shot was featured twice here. That's on purpose, because it's hilarious how the USGA cut around Rory's brief fit of fury. That's what makes him ever-so-slightly relatable!

Everyone knows how brilliant Rory is off the tee. This short par-four fifth hole was his 14th of the day, and he needed less than driver to hit it up near the green. You can understand why he was furious with himself for not capitalizing on that opportunity. However, clutch par saves are especially critical in the U.S. Open. To remain two under and right in the thick of contention is huge.

Coming off a victory at the Canadian Open last week, it seems like Rory is fired the fuck up to win his second U.S. Open. If his short game remains in this good of shape, he should be the favorite. Go get 'em, Rors!!
