James Worthy Goes Complete Old Man Style And Hits Every Cliche By Saying NBA Players Today Only 'Get Tattoos, Practice Threes And Tweet'

[Source] - "I mean, Kareem had four years with John Wooden, Michael Jordan and I had three years with Dean Smith, Isiah (Thomas) had some years with Bobby Knight. So you learned the fundamentals," Worthy said. "Not only that, you learned how to live. You learned how to balance your freaking checkbook in college, there’s a lot of things. When you don’t get that, guys are coming to the NBA who are not fundamentally sound. All they do is practice threes, lift weights, get tattoos, tweet and go on social media. That’s it.

Oh hell yes. This is how you do it people. You hit every single cliche and jam it all together. A goldmine here by James Worthy. Blame the one-and-done (NBA rule), say all these guys do are lift weights, tweet and  get tattoos. It's perfect. You couldn't string together a better group of things to blame the NBA on than Worthy right here.

I'll be honest though. I never get old guys that talk like this. It makes no sense. It's not like his era was perfect. Shit, I talk about it all the time that the 90s were my favorite era for the NBA. But it wasn't like it was great basketball or stuff like that. Every era is different. This era has the most athletic, versatile players that we may have ever seen. We also have the funniest era ever because naturally KD responded in the most KD way:

Of course it's not the old days nor should it be. We're not out here watching 8 people in the paint as two guys dribble and set screens. There's a happy medium of course. Sure, I'd love more 'sets' even though there still are some. But there's only so many ways the game can be played. Right now we're seeing teams be smart. Find mismatches and have your better player take advantage. I don't see a problem with that. The people who don't like the NBA will always not like it. Just the nature of the beast. Prefer the 90s or 2000s or whatever era? Fine. But you can at least acknowledge how good the players are today.

That or just go full Worthy. Lean into every cliche like the one-and-done rule, which again, is an NBA rule that was put in place to try and 'protect' owners. Last time I checked both are pros and cons. KD, LeBron, KG and Kobe seemed to be fine with either one year in college or just HS. I respect digging your heels in like Worthy but come on. Let some of it go.
