Chronic And Chronic 2001 Take you Into The Weekend!
So Compton is out. After 16 years finally Dre is back. Annndd I was completely let down. I seem to be in the minority. I think most people like it. I think it all depends on if you like new rap. This sounds a lot more new age to me and thats not what I wanted from Dre. I wanted vintage Dre, not Dre fitting in with rap now. And what I definitely didnt want is a thousand features of rappers I absolutely dont give a fuck about. Dre songs were always filled with features but its gone from Warren G, Nate Dogg, Snoop, Eminem, and Xzhibit to King Mez and Anderson .Paak. Some of the greats on on this album but after 15 years I dont wanna hear any of these other scrubs cluttering up this record. Again I’m sure if you like new rap you know those guys and that excites you. I guess I’m just living in the past. And I understand most people like Kendrick Lamar so thats probably a highlight for them. I dont so that didnt really do it for me. Em’s verse was fire, as expected. A few beats here and there were undeniable good. Undeniably Dre. The last two songs – Medicine Man (with Eminem) and Talking To My Diary are the only ones I’d even mention. But overall its just not even close to his previous two. The main thing for me is the only thing I have running through my head the entire time is “None of these songs even come CLOSE to the hits from Chronic or Chronic 2001.” Theres really not a single song on there I’ll ever seek out to listen to again. Its funny, me and Old Man Clem and Welker are the guys at Barstool who loved older rap and we’re all like “fuck! its terrible.” So I guess if you’re an old man like us, this post is for you. Hits from Chronic and Chronic 2001 taking you into the weekend, at least the ones that still work on Youtube.
