Tom Brady Makes His Retirement Official
And there it is. The worst kept secret in the history of retirements is a secret no longer. Somewhere Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington are standing with their arms folded, side-eyeing each other while slowly nodding.
Scroll through the seven slides and 17 paragraphs of this announcement and you'll see him thank the Buccaneers players, their fans, Jason Licht, Bruce Arians, Bucs coaches, staffers and employees, Alex Guerrero, his agents, and of course, Gisele. All those sentences and all those thank yous and not one word about the team, owner and coach with whom he went to 90% of his Super Bowls and won six of his rings with. Interesting. One can only assume that announcement is going to talk a lot more gigabytes than a Instagram post.
I stand by what I said Monday morning. He wanted this news to drop on the last episode of "Man in the Arena" to get eyeballs on the screen. Someone at ESPN saw it, alerted Schefter and Darlington and spoiled the party for him. But anyone who doubted Brady was calling it a career was delusional.
Once again, farewell to the greatest there ever was in this - or any other - game. This has been the longest non-Irish goodbye of all time, but it's official. Now sign a 10-day deal with the Patriots and let's REALLY call it a career.
