A High School Football Player Rushed A School Shooter And Sacrificed His Own Life To Save His Classmates

In the wake of the shooting at a school in Michigan on Tuesday, tens of thousands of people have signed a petition to rename the local football stadium in honor of a student who was reportedly killed trying to disarm the shooter.

Tate Myre, 16, has been identified as one of the three victims who died in the shooting at Oxford High School. The others have been named as 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, and 14-year-old Hanna St. Julian.

According to his fellow students, Myre, who played running back for the Oxford Wildcats football team, was shot while trying to disarm the shooter and later died from his injuries.

In a world where, in the wake of tragedy, it is oftentimes the perpetrator of terrible acts whose name is plastered across the media and talked about, today we should really discuss Tate Myre - a junior student-athlete who died trying to stop an armed gunman. 

Tate had just finished his junior football season and had received all-region for TE and LB.

A few days before his death he had taken a recruiting visit to Toledo.

His Twitter bio was classic high school recruit, he had a 3.9 GPA, 4.44s 40-yd dash, and benched 225x8. His Junior Highlights pinned for any coaches that might stumble on his account. 

With all of his accomplishments on and off the field, Tate Myre will be remembered for his bravery in the face of pure evil. 

It is reported that Tate rushed an active shooter and received many gunshot wounds trying to disarm him, allowing time for others to seek safety. 

As more comes out about this case, let us just take time to spread the name and heroism of Tate Myre, a hero who saved a countless amount of lives through self-sacrifice. 

Tate aspired to play at Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, Wayne State University, or Texas A&M University from what I can gather. His quote from his post-game interview, "Rain is like Oxford football, tough," resonates with the type of guy he was. Gritty to the highest degree. When Tate rushed the gunman he made the ultimate selfless sacrifice, something we should always remember to give perspective to our everyday lives.
