USA Today Simulated The Entire 2015 NFL Season And The Bears Were Predicted To Be The Worst Team In The League
Translation – last year was such a joke let’s just pretend it never happened.
I have a few things to get off my chest about this upcoming Chicago Bears season and what better time to do so than when the USA Today picks us to have the absolute worst record in the league and win 3 games. So here we go.
1) The Bears are going to win more than 3 games this season, I am guaranteeing that. Now they’re not going to be good but they won’t be awful either. Why? Because of John Fox, Vic Fangio, and Adam Gase. The 2014 Chicago Bears weren’t just bad at football, they were a terribly run organization from top to bottom, now that there are real NFL coaches in place with real schemes and real accountability, I honestly think some of the optimism we had going into last year will be realized this year. Again, the Bears won’t be in the playoffs, but 7-9, 8-8, that’s possible. Just having a professional Head Coach that knows how to run a team will do wonders, I truly believe that.
2) Jay Cutler is going to have a solid bounce back year. I know Jay has been a pretty easy target and that last year was a trainwreck of a season which unfortunately occurred simultaneously with him being the highest paid quarterback in the league, but I honestly think he’ll have a nice year. The Bears offense should be more balanced, no more 3 and outs in 7 seconds, and the Defense can’t possibly be as bad as it was now that we have a real Defensive Coordinator. Gase will play to Cutler’s strengths, move the pocket a lot more, let him be athletic, Eddie Royal being a legit slot guy will help a lot, and I think overall he’ll have a solid year. Somewhere in the range of 26-12-3,500. I’m sure many will disagree with this point and maybe I’ll be wrong but I’m going into this season thinking Jay is going to end up bouncing back from last season.
3) Be honest, there is a little comfort with expectations being this low. I know this will sound crazy but the Bears this season have nothing to lose. All their dignity, all the championship window talk, all the ascending team stuff died with the 2014 Chicago Bears. This is a clean slate, no one expects them to be good and in a way that’s nice. The expectations are gone, all anyone wants is to see some sort of progress and not be the laughing stock of the league, which means the bar is set insanely low and that is where I always like to be in life. Expect absolutely nothing and if you deliver even 1% over that nothing you had a successful season. I’m going to get drunk and have as much fun as possible this year, it’s impossible to get disappointed, that’s sort of nice.
4) This actually has nothing to do with the 3 previous points but I really need Kevin White to start playing, like yesterday.
Oh and if you don’t see more than 3 wins, just remember we play the Redskins, Raiders, and Niners at home as well as Bucs in Tampa. I know it won’t be a great year but come on, we’re not going 0-6 in the Division either.
