The Saga Continues: Drake Leaked An Unreleased Kanye Track Featuring Andre 3000 And It's A Ten
So here’s the story. Kanye did an interview last week with a German media group “Bild” promoting Donda.
During it, Kanye decided to tease that he did a full song with the one and only Andre 3000 but that he decided not to put it on the album because it wasn't an edited verse…
He played a preview of the track and it was unsurprisingly a gem.
On Saturday night Drake appeared on Sirius XM’s Sound 42 program as a guest DJ to celebrate the release of his new album, ‘Certified Lover Boy’.
During his broadcast Drake played the song (somehow this was ok’d?) which listeners also learned included a soundbite from a video of DMX and his daughter on a slingshot ride.
Drake got his hands on the track, and released it because on Kanye’s verse, he takes aim at Drake directly and by name, going into a detailed account of a text exchange between himself, Drake and fashion designer Virgil Abloh.
Andre 3000, in a very uncharacteristic move, publicly commented on the leak, via Pitchfork.
“A few weeks ago Kanye reached out about me being a part of the [‘DONDA’] album. I was inspired by his idea to make a musical tribute to his mom. It felt appropriate to me to support the [‘DONDA’] concept by referencing my own mother, who passed away in 2013. We both share that loss.
“I thought it was a beautiful choice to make a clean album but, unfortunately, I didn’t know that was the plan before I wrote and recorded my verse. It was clear to me that an edited ‘clean’ format of the verse would not work without having the raw, original also available. So, sadly, I had to be omitted from the original album release.”
He also spoke on Drake and West’s ongoing feud, noting what when he agreed to collaborate with the latter, the verse ripping on Drake was not a part of the track.
“We were hoping to make a more focused offering for [‘DONDA’] but I guess things happen like they are supposed to,” he continued. “It’s unfortunate that it was released in this way and two artists that I love are going back and forth.
And around and around we go.
I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I am beginning to feel the tension between Kanye and Drake beginning to reach a crescendo.
A few takeaways from the latest drama is that the song is a ten. And it’s a shame it didn’t make it onto Kanye’s album.
Obviously we hear another fire sample from Kanye and co-producer 3 Stacks, taking "I Was The Life Of The Party" from The Dramatics
And repurposing it for this song.
Many joked online that this was the best song Drake dropped all week.
Obviously, anything Andre 3000 blesses turns to gold, and this was no different. We need a full album from this man and Big Boi and we needed it yesterday.
Here's the full song -
