CoD Champs Day 2 Recap - Empire and FaZe Look Incredible, OpTic Gets Taken Out, and Pacific Time Is Fucking Me Up

The boys were buzzing this morning - we left early this morning to make sure we caught as much CoD Champs action as possible and the matches did not disappoint!

Champs Day 2

Before we were able to make it to the venue, Dallas Empire and Toronto Ultra had a slugfest that lasted the full 5 games.

In the end, Empire held strong and won map 5 to punch their ticket into the Winner's Final.

Passion. You love to see it out of Illey.

FaZe vs NYSL

Up next, we had Atlanta FaZe square off against the New York Subliners.

In dominant fashion, FaZe swept NYSL to send them into the loser's bracket.

Throughout the tournament so far, FaZe has showed that they are still the top dawgs in the CDL. They haven't missed a step yet. Tomorrow will be their biggest test as they face Crimsix and Dallas Empire. The winner of this match will punch their ticket into the Championship on Sunday.

OpTic vs Toronto

Then finally, we get to see the boys in green step on the main stage as OpTic took on Toronto Ultra in the loser's bracket. With everything on the line in this matchup, it's win or go home.

Toronto came out firing from all cylinders and took map 1 in the series.

Map 2 - same story.

In a quick reversal, OpTic switched to a near gear and took game 3 to make the series 2-1

Game 4 - we're going back to the same map (Raid) to play a Hardpoint match (aka, King of the Hill). In a match that came down to the very last second, Toronto was able to hold off the OpTic and ultimately knock them out of CoD Champs.

Last Match - New York Subliners vs Minnesota Røkkr

Before the match started, we caught up with David, who's a huge Røkkr fan.

I asked David (3) questions:

- How'd you become a Minnesota fan? Because of Standy and Attach

- What's your prediction for the upcoming series? 3-2 Røkkr

- Is your GPA higher than your KD? My GPA is absolutely higher than my KD

Minnesota came out strong and really flexed their muscles during this first map. "Standy" - who is a major contender for Rookie of the Year in the CDL, led the team with 27 kills and only 15 deaths. For reference, the CDL standard is a 1.0 kills/death average and Standy had a 1.8 KD.

Think of it like this, if the MLB batting average is .250, than Standy is batting .350. Phenomenal performance out of him.

However, we definitely have to work on this camera angle…

NYSL wasn't going down without a fight as they clutched up and won the Search and Destroy in the next game, evening the series at 1-1.

In a tightly fought Control game (worst game mode), Røkkr were able to secure the dub and turn the series in their favor 2-1.

In a wild back and forth game 4 Hardpoint, Røkkr were just able to hold on and secure the series victory.

The dream remains alive for Minnesota, but tomorrow they'll face a very tough matchup in Toronto Ultra. Winner will advance to a Top 3 placement, with the loser taking home fourth.

Day 3's Action

Tomorrow, we have (3) matchups to look forward to: Faze vs Empire beginning at 3pm EST, followed by Ultra vs Røkkr.

The Winner of Ultra vs Røkkr will face the loser of FaZe vs Empire.
