Father Time Continues To Be An Asshole: Rafa Nadal Announces He Will Not Play In The US Open As He Deals With a Foot Injury
For the second year in a row Novak Djokovic will be the only member of the Big 3 to play in the US Open. That flat out sucks. Just a few days ago we found out Roger Federer was set to undergo a 3rd knee surgery that would put him out for many months. Now Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the US Open with a foot injury. The Spaniard has dealt with this issue since the French Open, having only played in two matches (both at the DC Open) since. He looked like a shell of himself in those matches with almost no power behind his shots. It was brutal to watch him get steam rolled by Lloyd Harris in that tournament. Who knows what the future holds for him now.
No Federer, Nadal, del Potro, or Wawrinka in a few weeks. In year's past those four have been mainstays and crowd favorites in Flushing. The defending champ Dominic Thiem is also battling a wrist injury and won't be there as well. Yikes. Father Time is a fucking asshole and he comes for all of us at some point. Who knows if we see any of Fed, Nadal, del Potro, or Stan ever again at the US Open. My money would be on Rafa, but it's definitely up in the air as it stands.
Sigh, Djokovic has a clear path to number 21 here. They're not even using lines judges this year, it's all electronic I believe, so he can't even get DQ'd for drilling one of them with a ball. Only hope might be if he runs into Kyrgios.
Welp, enjoy some of Nadal's best US Open moments here to close out the blog
