The Yankees Finish Off Their Sweep Of The Boston Red Sox And Continue To Play Their Best Baseball of the Season

Shortstop Andrew Velazquez is a kid born in the Bronx who grew up loving the Yankees. He just put the finishing touches on a sweep of the Boston Red Sox with his finger prints all over the three game. 4 RBIs and great defensive plays made all over the place, including the game winning dig in the hole with the Sox threatening in the 9th. Unreal play all around including the scoop by Anthony Rizzo (welcome back). Rizzo made two exceptional plays at first in that 9th inning that an average first baseman simply doesn't make. There's a reason he's a platinum gold glove winner and it's good to have him over there (Voit should still be the DH).

The Yankees trailed the Red Sox by 10.5 games on July 6th. After this sweep on August 18th they are now a full game up in the standings (2 in the all important loss column). This quick turnaround with all sorts of spare parts involved has been nothing short of remarkable.

Apparently all it took for Andrew Heaney to pitch well was to face the Red Sox. Despite giving up a first inning homer to Bogaerts, the lefty ended up shoving for seven brilliant innings, allowing just the one run and two hits. Heaney has been god awful for the Yankees in his first three starts, but tonight he was absolutely dominant. Go figure. Even Zack Britton looked great in a 1-2-3 8th. As for Chapman in the 9th fresh off the IL? Alright he was rusty, but Luetge came in and slammed the door. It's not a Yankees game in 2021 if you don't wanna die at least once during the game, right?

Great win, awesome series. Six straight wins for the boys, five of those wins involving a different pitcher recording the save. Season high 17 games over .500 with the Twins coming to town for 4. Let's fucking go, keep it going.

And buy a shirt. Rizzo is back like he never left.
