The Opposing Pitcher Singing Your Walk-Up Song on the Mound Is a Great Sign You're About to Strike Out
I don't know if Andrew Stevenson noticed Luke Jackson singing his walk-up song as he was coming to the plate in the 8th inning of the Braves' 6-5 win over the Nats on Sunday, but if he did, he had to know he was dead. When the pitcher is out there vibing to Jason Aldean — that's supposed to be *your* song nonetheless — you can just save everyone some time and head back to the dugout.
Which is exactly what Stevenson did after three pitches.
I absolutely love Luke Jackson. He's so pure. He wasn't trying to be disrespectful or anything like that, he just heard a fantastic song come on the loudspeaker and couldn't help but sing along. And given the fact Amarillo Sky is certainly a top five Aldean track — Crazy Town, My Kinda Party, Gettin' Warmed Up, Amarillo Sky and Fly Over States in that order — that's totally valid.
I'm sure position players sing along to walk-up songs all the time and we just don't see it on TV. But if you ever see a pitcher with a 2.20 ERA and a wipeout slider co-opting your tune, just accept that you've been owned.
