Colts QB Carson Wentz's Injury Is Very Bad News For The Eagles

When Carson Wentz was shipped out of Philly to the Colts, it was for a 2021 3rd round pick and a conditional 2022 2nd round pick. That 2nd round pick would become a 1st rounder in this upcoming April's Draft IF Wentz plays 75% of the snaps this upcoming season OR 70% of the snaps this season AND the Colts make the playoffs. So if we're looking at O/Us for the year, the Colts were at 10, which would put them in the playoffs. So Wentz really just has to play 70% of the snaps for this pick to turn into a 1st rounder for the Birds.

That all seems dandy, until Schefty broke this little nugget today:

Out indefinitely sounds bad. It was actually a non-contact injury. According to Colts OC Marcus Brady, Wentz felts a "twinge in his foot" when he rolled out to throw during Thursday's practice. But hey, it's only July. There is still plenty of time. But then you see things later thrown in like "not expected to be season ending" later in the day.

Okkkkkk. That sounds like a guy who will NOT be playing 70% of the snaps. If that's the case, the key piece of the trade with the Colts would stay as a 2nd rounder which would very much hurt Philly's ability to move up in the Draft next year. That's a tough pill to swallow for a team that's essentially giving Jalen Hurts a one year trial as the starter and could be looking for a replacement at QB. The Eagles currently have Miami's 1st rounder to go with their own and it appears it'll be staying that way.
