A Michigan Politician Said He Spent $200 of Campaign Money at a Strip Club for a 'Constituent Meeting' Because It Has Great Lamb Chops

The Detroit News — A Michigan lawmaker reported spending $221 of his campaign money at a strip club in Dearborn for a March 8 "constituent meeting" to discuss "potential economic projects," according to a disclosure filed Sunday.

State Rep. Jewell Jones, D-Inkster, turned in his new fundraising report ahead of Monday's 5 p.m. deadline for state officeholders and candidates to submit the records. In a phone interview, Jones described the Pantheion Club, the venue of the meeting, as a "lounge" and said he wasn't sure if it was a strip club before the phone call became disconnected.

"We have (to) meet people where they're at some times ... #HOLLA," Jones said in a text message after the interview. He added that the club had "great lamb chops."

I was going to comment on how ridiculous the excuse that a strip club has great lamb chops was, but then I read the rest of Jewell Jones' text message to a reporter and I'm all in on this guy now. He shouldn't have even mentioned the food, because the first part of that message is all but an admission of guilt. Just lean all the way into it at that point.

"#HOLLA" is quite possibly my favorite thing a politician has ever said on the record. He may as well have just said, "Yeah, fuck it. We went to the strip club. What of it?"

And as to Jones' claim about the lamb chops, I obviously can't speak to the food quality at this particular Dearborn, Michigan strip club. But Lou Williams was all but demonstrably proven correct about the wings at Magic City, so maybe this guy is telling the truth, too.

One day, politicians might learn to quit spending traceable campaign money at places such as the Pantheion Club. But I hope they never do, because it provides fantastic content.
