Ronald Acuña Jr. Is Officially Out For the Season With a Torn ACL

Pain. Nothing but excruciating, unceasing pain.

I think pretty much everyone who Saw Ronald Acuña go down and eventually get carted off the field on Saturday knew deep down he probably wasn't going to play again in 2021, but the news officially came out that Acuña will miss the rest of the season — and likely at least the first couple months next year — with a torn right ACL.

I don't know what I can say that isn't pretty inherent in this news, but this just royally sucks for everybody. Ronald is going to have to come back from a significant injury when he was in the midst of another 40/40 chase. The Braves' season is officially over. Baseball has lost one of its brightest stars. Everyone loses.

But from the baseball side, I can't imagine even the staunchest of Braves haters could have scripted a season where this many things went catastrophically wrong before the All-Star break. Travis d'Arnaud played 23 games to the tune of -0.2 WAR before getting hurt. Marcell Ozuna went to jail. Mike Soroka couldn't even come back from his first Achilles tear before he popped it again. And now the most exciting player in baseball and the heart and soul of your team has a torn ACL and is done for the season.

There is no synonym for pain strong enough to describe the emotions of the last three months. I just sincerely hope we get the same Ronnie on the other side of this injury. Rest up and come back ready to kill it again next season, GOAT.
