Competitive Warzone Is Over As We Know It
Last night during a $100,000 Warzone tournament, tempers flared among Warzone pros as Fifakill, WarsZ and Recrent won the tournament on a "Russian host."
I'll try to break this down as simply as possible for those that don't eat, breathe and sleep Warzone.
Timed Kill Races
Timed kill races have become the standard norm for Warzone tournaments. To give an example, 1 kill = 1 point and a win is 20 points. Then, they take your best 3 games in 3 hours and add them together. Whichever team has the most points from their best three games, wins the tournament. Aka a 30 kill win = 50 points.
Since this format became popular because of Nickmercs' MFAM Gauntlet, players were always looking to get the biggest competitive edge possible. This led us to last night's drama - Newbz's team is on the left and Fifakill's team on the right
What this picture is trying to show is the major difference in lobby KD (kill/death ratio). The lower the KD, the easier the lobby, thus the easier to get more kills and boost your score. Fifakill's teammate "Recrent" is from Russia and using his host is known to have significant advantages. Recrent is essentially a built in VPN (if you want to read more about VPNs and their use in Warzone, read the blog below)
Ultimately, players are trying to get the easiest lobbies possible and they'll do whatever it takes.
When BobbyPoff heard who win, he flipped out.
After last night, it was clear that Warzone pros were fed up and over this format of tournament. With $100,000 on the line, I wouldn't be happier with it either. That's serious prize money. This led to Rated, who is Aydan's duo partner with over $200,000 in Warzone earnings, is calling for pros to boycott this style of tournament.
To keep it easy, every Warzone tournament going forward should take place in custom lobbies. Have the best of the best face off against each other and whoever places higher and gets more kills, wins. Simple and easy.
