NJ.com- New York Giants cornerback Sam Beal pleaded guilty to two gun-related charges in Lorain County Court in Ohio last Friday stemming from a June 2020 arrest near Cleveland. Court records obtained by NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network indicate Beal entered into a pretrial diversion program, which puts conditions on him to meet in exchange to avoid a conviction on his record. He has been placed on two years of probation until June 3, 2022 and was ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.

According to court records, Beal was arrested June 2 of last year in Ohio during a stop for a traffic violation. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle and marijuana possession. He was indicted on the gun charges on Aug. 13, 2020.

Eight days before the indictment, Beal opted out of the 2020 regular season as part of the NFL/NFLPA’s COVID-19 protocols and did not play for the Giants last fall. He remains on the Giants’ 90-man roster and participated in the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp that concluded Thursday.

TIME TO UPDATE THE BOARD!!!

It felt like we were about due for a blog about why Sam Beal won't be playing for the Giants this season and this just may be the thing that does it. Hand up, I had noooooo fucking clue that Beal was arrested last year. That could be because of Ohio laws or because everything that happened in June of last year didn't register in our brains during that hazy time.

Nonetheless, the odds of Sam Beal making a Coach Judge roster just got a lot tougher and the Giants continuing to acquire defensive backs every chance they get just made a lot more sense. I guess we should've known this pick was doomed from the start.

Okay, that's enough negativity. Coach Judge would have us all running laps for thinking about the past. We should focus on the positives, like at least the Giants used a first round pick in the 2019 draft to select a corner that has been able to avoid the headlines and will be here for a long time.

Shit!

Let's try this again. No matter what happens on the field or off the field, at least Beal isn't the worst supplementary draft pick the Giants have ever made in my life.

Much better (I guess!). Can't wait to convince myself that next season is the year Sam Beal puts it all together.
