"Just ahead of its French release, Universal’s F9 has been set for a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival, Deadline has confirmed. This is the mystery studio movie that Cannes General Delegate Thierry Frémaux has been teasing for a few weeks. We understand that the film will show before its official launch into French cinemas on July 14 (nationwide previews begin July 13) and will be screened on the beach in Cannes, thus providing a viewing opportunity for the public, which is something the festival has been keen to do this year."
Cannes has a long and storied history of promoting the art of film. Great European art drama's have dominated the scene at the french film festival for over 70 years. So it is only natural that the next great feature to come from this is the tiny indy feature we know as F9.
Honestly, though, I wish I could be there to watch all these French bastards sitting down and watching Vin Diesel running through walls, Tyrese Gibson flying a Pontiac into space and John Cena slinging Ludacris over his shoulder for an Attitude Adjustment. "Sacré Bleu!", exclaims critic Gerard LeCassel between puffs of his cigarette as Letty kicks Cipher in the vagina while freefalling off a building. People throw their baguettes on the floor in disgust. "Lets go watch the latest Roman Polanski movie! There is a guy we can get behind!".
Whatever the French say about this movie, I cannot wait for this movie which is set to release on the 25th of this month. A lot of reviewers I trust have noted that we should temper our expectations, but you know what? Fuck 'em. F9 is going to be exactly what it is supposed to be and I am more than ok with that.
I just hope they can convert this guy who ETHERED the franchise in a review for F8
