The Best Two-Way Player in Baseball Isn't Shohei Ohtani, It's Huascar Ynoa

Step aside Shohei Ohtani, because there's a new sheriff in town.

After smacking a homer in his last start, Braves pitcher Huascar Ynoa did the damn thing again on Tuesday when he blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning. He's the first pitcher in Atlanta franchise history to hit a home run in consecutive starts. And oh by the way, in those two starts, Ynoa went 12.1 IP, 8 H, 0 ER, 13 SO and 4 BB.

Ynoa has a 2.36 ERA on the season and six of the nine earned runs he's allowed this season came in one start on a blustery day in Chicago. He's right there with Ian Anderson for the best pitcher on the Braves staff this year — which could be great or terrible news, depending on how you want to look at it.

Regardless, my guy Huascar threw the fastest pitch in baseball last night and also hit one of the four longest home runs. Ohtani is crying.

And just so we're all on the same page, I don't actually believe Ynoa is even in the same discussion as Ohtani as a hitter, though he is undeniably better on the mound. I do wonder, however, how many consecutive starts an NL pitcher would have to hit a home run in for the coaching staff to make him start taking BP every day and work with him on his swing. Four? Five? Maybe we'll find out with Ynoa.

But anyway, just please remember that a National League pitcher has more home runs and RBI this season than Mets fan-appointed Best Player in Baseball Francisco Lindor.
