The Atlanta Braves Should Consider Forfeiting The Rest Of The Season After Getting Murdered By The Cubs Today

Listen up I don't want to hear your bulllshit that this game doesn't mean anything. Don't even fucking start with me guys. I've been laboring through the first 13 games of the 2021 MLB season about as hard as any other year in memory. It's been a mental grind that I'm not adequately prepared for in the least bit. I knew the team would dip but did you honestly think it would be the worst offense in the history of MLB through 12 games? Because that's the team that took the field today. Literally the worst offensive output any team has ever accumulated through 12 games. Deep down you knew this game was coming.

But did we really? I mean it's one thing to know that this is a game of streaks and flukes. But 59 hits in 12 games? There's a guy on the Indians who came into today with more hits with runners in scoring position (8) than every single player on the Cubs (7). That's the kinda stuff that makes you want to buy an AM/FM radio and turn this season into background noise. It was grim.

And then comes a day like today. Gun to my head I would've said it was unthinkable for this team to score 13 runs - especially without showing us any signs of life. It's not like they have been knocking on the door of breaking out. It's been one awful performance after the other. So yeah excuse me for being damaged emotionally this early. I'm fragile.

But now that we've seen it with our own eyes, I'm ready to open myself up and be more vulnerable. I'm willing to build some expectations and assume there's more big games coming our way. This lineup has way too much firepower not to build from this game.

All of this said - tomorrow night will be a really big game because it's a Sunday night rubber match. The Cubs need to win this series heading into the next couple weeks. You have far too many quality teams to not jump on this opportunity. And if you think about it, pretty wild after everything that the Cubs are 6-8. Quick vibe check around town had them at 2-12 but that's just not the case. Turns out we're not the absolute worst, and even better is that the Cubs have already hit their absolute worst. So do the math. Good opportunity to buy low and sell high.

OTHER NEWS:

This was an awesome moment. Sean Kazmar played in a couple dozen games about 13 years ago. He then did 2009-2019 in the minors. Sat out 2020 probably thinking his career was over. Then went to spring training in 2021 and did well enough to be in the mix mid-April. I have no idea how a 36 year-old infielder managed to hang around this long, but it was really fucking cool to watch his at bat. Even if it ended in a double play, it was cool to soak up that moment. Perfect example of why baseball is such an amazing game.

Lastly

The Cubs are back.
