The En Eff El Draft Show | Tonight 8PM ETTUNE IN

What is the Difference Between Getting Fired, Stepping Down, and Agreeing To Part Ways?

On today's Barstool Bench Mob, it's officially our first full episode of the college basketball offseason. Some of the main topics we touched on were the recent developments of Villanova being a National Championship contender next season with the return of Collin Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels, entering another year of the Maryland Terrapins being hyped up, and much more.

Another topic we hit on was an update on the coaching carousel that constantly shows some movement. Speedy Claxton was hired by Hofstra, while mid-major powers Liberty and UC Santa Barbara each extended their coaches. On the flip side, John Brannen of Cincinnati is no longer the man at the helm for the Bearcats. While the exact reasons for his removal are still being sorted out, we had a heated debate on today's show over some of the phrases used by teams and the media when moves like this happen. There's "parting ways," as in the case with UC...

Boston College "fired" Head Coach Jim Christian a few months ago...

And we can even go back to last year, when Penn State's Pat Chambers "stepped down"...

So, all of these phrases each result in the coach no longer remaining in his current role. But the chain of events that lead up to it all can have the opportunity to provide different context as to why this happened. Rico and Marty were NOT happy with the different words, as you can take a look for yourself below:
