Insane Story Of a Diver Who Survived Shark Infested Waters For Three Hours By Himself After His Boat Capsized

Daily Mail

A terrified diver was left stranded in shark-infested waters for more than three hours after his boat capsized, and was only saved after diving down to retrieve his miraculously un-damaged radio beacon.

Cody Love, 24, was anchored on the Great Barrier Reef on the Queensland coast for what he had hoped was going to be a half-day diving trip.

But disaster struck just 20 minutes into the trip when his boat capsized, leaving him stuck in the water.

I think of all my fears in the world (ex. tornadoes, spiders, broken rollercoasters, turbulence, being forced to watch the movie Downsizing again) being stranded in the middle of the ocean sits right at the top of the list. The ocean is by far the scariest place on Earth. They say we've only discovered 5 percent, which is a number that haunts me in my sleep constantly. I'm a guy who is convinced Megalodon is still out there, roaming the deep depths of the Pacific Ocean. I could not be more team pool over team beach if I tried for these reasons. The ocean is not our home, we should stay out of it.

I've seen the movie 'Open Water.' It doesn't end well for those folks. I remember reading a story a few years ago about a group of people stranded at sea. So much time went by that some of them lost their minds from dehydration that they jumped into the ocean filled with great white sharks because they thought the shore all of a sudden appeared. They didn't come back. I keep my feet firmly planted on land where us humans belong.

Well, here we have this diver whose boat capsized and was left by himself in shark infested waters for THREE HOURS. Absolutely fucking not. This guy says he was more worried about the boat being okay than himself. That's how calm he was floating around in the middle of the ocean near Australia, a place known for its infestation of the deadliest sharks in the world. I'm not sure if I would drown first, die of a heart attack, or just get torn apart limb from limb by the sharks first. Three hours is the length of a football game on TV. That is a ETERNITY in the open water.

Dude lit two flares to attract nearby boats. Nothing. He put an orange tarp over the boat for planes to see. Close, but not cigar. So what saved his life?

As a further two hours passed by Mr Love said he finally set off an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon and 'hoped for the best.'

I'm no expert here, in fact far from it, but setting off the 'Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon' would have probably been my first move once the boat capsized. Flares and orange tarps? They probably tried that stuff back in the Titanic days. I almost feel like this sicko enjoyed being stuck in the middle of the ocean. 5,000 career dives, this crazy man was having fun out there like he was at a Dave and Busters.

Few takeaways…. Never go in the ocean. If you are gonna go in the middle of the ocean, take a bigger boat than what this fella did. If you're gonna go out in the ocean, don't go by yourself!

Team pool for life.
