Mets Reaction Game 2: Winning Despite Luis Rojas

After their opening day disaster, Luis Rojas did everything he could to do it again, as the New York Mets' bullpen dished out plenty of ajita but was bailed out by some bad swings by the Phillies as the Mets bats did the job as eight runs were enough. The Mets offense broke through in the seventh, scoring four runs, helped by four walks as Francisco Lindor had a sac-fly for his first RBI of the season. The Mets added two more insurance runs on a Pete Alonso home run, all of which were needed as the Mets poison pen made every pitch an adventure over the final three innings.

Marcus Stroman making his first start since 2019, was strong as he kept the ball on the ground most of the night, with his lone mistake coming on a fat pitch that Didi Gregorius planted in the shrubs for a home run. The bullpen was a clusterfuck, as Miguel Castro, Trevor May-Day, and Jeurys Familia all pitched poorly. Stroman earned the win, allowing one run on three hits in six innings.

Miguel Castro pitching for the second straight day looked gassed as our idiot manager completely has no clue. Castro was able to get Bryce Harper to fly out to center after allowing one run. Trevor May, who got the loss and had trouble finding the plate Monday, came in again, as Luis Rojas somehow does not grasp the concept of tired pitchers. May had two runners on base when Brad Miller earned the golden sombrero Roman Quinn also went down on strikes as May escaped unscathed. After Alonso homered to make it 8-2, Jeurys Familia came in and sucked, allowing two runs, but the Mets had enough cushion to survive Familia's awfulness.

The bullpen is a nightmare, Jacob deGrom, and Marcus Stroman have both been solid, and Pete Alonso looks locked in. Add in a home run by Dominick Smith and Brandon Nimmo; getting on base and making things happen are the good signs, but that bullpen, my God, it is going to kill me. Also, Luis Rojas needs to think. His decision-making has left a lot to be desired. Trevor May and Miguel Castro are not able to pitch tomorrow. The Mets need to address this bullpen and do it now.
