Review Journal - The World Series of Poker is planning a full in-person schedule for later this year.
The WSOP has set tentative dates for Sept. 30 to Nov. 23 at the Rio, including the Main Event, the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em World Championship.
The flagship WSOP in Las Vegas and WSOP Europe were canceled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The WSOP Online was held in its place over the summer, and a hybrid online/live Main Event was held in December and January.
“In 2021, the theme is, get vaccinated and get back to Vegas,” WSOP executive director Ty Stewart said in a statement.
No decision has been made on the number of players allowed at each table, whether the tables will have plexiglass dividers or other restrictions live poker players have dealt with during the pandemic.
The opening weekend of the WSOP is expected to include a charity event to benefit frontline health care workers, a $25,000 HORSE event (a mix of five poker games) and a No-limit Hold’em event with a guaranteed $5 million prize pool dubbed “The Reunion.”
FUCK YEAH. Man, this is a long time coming. I have missed playing live poker SO MUCH. SO, SO MUCH. There is something therapeutic about sitting there, shuffling your chips amongst thousands of other hopefuls, gunning for the money. Honestly, winning a hand and raking in a huge pot is as close to sex as I think I'll ever get.
That was from when I ran deep in the Big 500, the biggest tournament ever run, with over 20,000 players.
And that's where this year's WSOP will be interesting- obviously by September we will be well on our way back to "normalcy". But are they going to jump back into the deep end with these massive, MASSIVE fields where everyone is packed dick to ass for 15 hours a day? And will one COVID case shut down the entire thing? Will they require a vaccination to play? Lots of questions to be answered, but thankfully there are many months to smooth it all out.
All I know is I am pumped. I am trying to get microchipped so I can play. I want to go out there and fire at multiple events, well above my bankroll. Plus, everyone knows I look way more handsome in Vegas, it's just a fact.
And never forget when I had a shit ton of chips in the Main and punted!!!
Hopefully will have some #PokerContent leading up to it. Maybe an in-office heads up tournament? We want to do a cash game but the logistics are a big fuzzy with keeping track of chip counts, getting cameras for the cards, etc. So a heads up tournament seems like a good start. More on that as I hear it…
