Brad Stevens Makes It Very Clear He Is Not Quitting His Job To Go Coach At Indiana

Well that's that! To be honest, I'm not really up to speed on what's going on with Indiana as a basketball program or on their message boards, but Reags has made it pretty clear that the second they fired their coach the entire fanbase has been praying for Brad Stevens to come and save them. I keep seeing the viceroy on my timeline praying for it

Sorry folks, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but why do this to yourself? Forget the fact that the Celts JUST signed him to a contract extension, you heard it from the man himself. Brad is not quitting one of the most secure jobs in the entire NBA to go back to college. There's a negative infinity chance Ainge/Wyc fires him and as someone who has lived the Brad Stevens experience for the last 8 seasons, you know he's way too competitive to just back it up and call it a day at the NBA level. He's not going to want that narrative that he was just another college coach that couldn't hang or produce at the NBA level.

I feel like once he took the plunge and came to the big leagues, that was a wrap for Brad Stevens the college coach. Why? Because even if we live in a world where the Celtics decide to one day move on from Brad, he'll have another great NBA opportunity in about 0.5 seconds. I'm certainly not a college coach, but I feel like the NBA lifestyle has to be a little better. Considering he's already well paid, I'm not sure even going back home to the state of Indiana makes it worth it.

At the very least, as long as ownership is on board, I can imagine Brad wanting to see and coach the prime of the two Jays. We haven't even entered that territory yet. It's not like he hasn't had success in Boston either. Yes, he needs to prove he can get over the hump and make the NBA Finals. We all know that. But he's quickly rising the Celts all time coaching winning percentage and has made deep runs in 3 of the last 4 years. He's already 4th all time in wins and trails Doc by just 78. He's just 10 postseason wins from passing Tommy. Overall, this experiment has been a success up until this point so why would he be looking? Again, he just signed another extension in August of 2020. The specifics weren't released but I imagine it was for a decent chunk of years/money. Wyc has publicly stated time and time again that he is committed to the Ainge/Brad pairing so why think anything will suddenly change?

So I'm sorry Indiana fans. I know it's fun to dream. I know it's fun to make memes on the internet and pray. I do it all the time when it comes to the Celts actually getting over the hump. But you may as well move on to someone else because Brad Stevens is in Boston for both the present and the future. His words, not mine.
