Christopher Plummer, Star Of 'The Sound of Music', 'The Insider' And More, Has Passed Away
Christopher Plummer has passed away at 91, his family has confirmed. He passed peacefully at his home in Connecticut, with Elaine Taylor, his wife and true best friend for 53 years by his side.
Lou Pitt, his longtime friend and manager of 46 years said; “Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”
Plummer has been such a great force in movies for such a long time that I already can't believe that he is really gone. My favorite role of his, Captain von Trapp in 'The Sound of Music', happened before my mom was even born! And after that, he continued delivering in a ton of different roles across all sorts of genres. He was incredible in 'The Insider' and fantastic in all of his Spike Lee movies including 'Malcolm X' and 'Inside Man'. He also recently stole the show as Harlan Thrombey in 'Knives Out', one of the best movies of 2019.
To have a roles that successful in your prime is not unheard of, but to continue delivering incredible performances that far into age is really exceptional and a true testement to how great of an actor he was. Rest in peace to a legend of Hollywood, and thoughts out to his family.
