Sean McVay And Matthew Stafford Celebrating In Mexico On Saturday Night Has Me Convinced The Rams Won The Trade

[Source] - "Once the deal was agreed to, some 1,100 miles south of L.A., McVay and Stafford were sitting down for dinner to celebrate a fresh start of their own," Breer wrote on Sunday night. "The coach and his new quarterback happened to be among a number of NFL people in Cabo last week—Saints coach Sean Payton and QB Drew Brees, Rams LT Andrew Whitworth and others were nearby, too, over the last few days."

So how exactly did Stafford and McVay connect so quickly? Kelly Stafford is largely to thank.

McVay is friends with Bills receivers coach Chad Hall, who is Kelly Stafford's brother. The connection led to a friendly relationship between the Staffords and McVay in recent years, and upon the trade's completion, the two couples joined in Cabo to celebrate.

That's it, now I'm convinced the Rams won the deal. Sure they are going to go 7 years without a first round pick and sure Stafford is in his 30s, but hitting up Mexico the night of the trade? That's exactly how you start a QB/coach relationship. You get in with the wives and then bam, 10 win season. Plus who wouldn't want to get dinner with McVay's fiancee? The dude is living the best sort of life.

It's still wild to me how quick the Jared Goff dropoff happened here. He was starting in a Super Bowl two seasons ago and immediately went to 'can the Rams trade him'. Insane to see that trade happen still. Feel like we don't get those huge NFL trades often so it always blows my mind a bit when we get something like this. Not only that but you're going from a coach who gets anyone who has spent 5 minutes with him a job and a QB guru to ... Detroit. The Lions have made Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders retire early. They wasted Matthew Stafford, a QB you can 100% win with. It's the fucking Lions. Imagine getting the call that you're going from LA and the Rams to that. Woof.

On the flip side, how excited do you think Stafford was? The dude was dragged in Detroit.

Now he gets a fresh start with an actual defense, a coach that knows how to run an offense and some weapons? That's how you win. I always liked Stafford. Feel like he catches a raw deal with the 'one Pro Bowl' and not winning. To me that's not his fault. The dude got murdered nearly every game, kept competing and made the Lions as relevant as he possibly could. Hopefully he gets a postseason win now.

All I know is celebrating in Mexico with your coach and two smokes is not a bad way to spend a Saturday. Do I care about the draft picks? Nope. I firmly believe the Rams won the trade now.
