On today's Barstool Bench Mob, we recap what has been an eventful week in college hoops. Michigan made a statement against Wisconsin, Mac McClung and Texas Tech came back to stun Texas in Austin, and Duke continues to struggle against good teams.
We also welcomed on Baylor guard Jared Butler to the show. The Bears are currently undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the entire country. Impressive, right? However, the majority of the talk in the college basketball universe has been about Gonzaga's undefeated start, and deservedly so. However, Baylor might be one of the most underrated No. 2 team college hoops has seen in a while when it comes to publicity. Their best win came against Illinois, but Scott Drew and company have a gauntlet of a schedule coming up.
Unfortunately, their biggest game (on paper) got postponed back in December...
That was awful. We had two of the top teams in the sport ready to battle it out on a neutral floor, but the game got called about two hours before tip. However, the door wasn't completely shut on a battle between the Bulldogs and the Bears:
I need this matchup. You need this matchup. We ALL need this matchup. Butler, one of the best players in college basketball, does not forget who knocked his Baylor team out of the 2019 NCAA Tournament:
It was the Round of 32 out in Salt Lake City. (1) Gonzaga vs. (9) Baylor. The Bears came off a win over my alma matter, Syracuse, in the tournament opener, and Mark Few's squad had their eyes set on a National Championship. Unfortunately for today's Bench Mob guest, it was the team out West who won the game.
But now, we can only hope we get a tournament rematch this year. These two teams are the best in college basketball so far, and it would only be fitting to see them meet in Indianapolis in April.
