We Got Chaos In College Hoops: Preseason AAC Player of the Year Caleb Mills Just Randomly Transferred From Top 10 Houston

What the hell is going on in college hoops this week? It started with big Oscar T transferring from WVU and now Caleb Mills transferring from Houston. The Mills one is what we're going to talk about here for a second. Why? Because Caleb Mills was the preseason AAC Player of the Year. Because Houston is a potential Final Four team and a top-10 team. I don't care that they are 11 in the AP Poll, we refuse to acknowledge that bullshit here. They are 9 on KenPom and top-10 in the Reags Rankings, which is all that matters to me. That's how good Houston is. Yes, Mills has barely played this year due to an ankle injury and Houston is still 8-1 with the lone loss being a 1-point loss at Tulsa right before the new year. At the same time, that's how good Mills is. He's played just 4 games, averaging 19 minutes in those games, but still scoring over 9 points despite the bum ankle.

Here's the biggest selling point for Houston though. They still have the best backcourt in the conference and still should be a top-15 team without Mills. The biggest reason is Quentin Grimes. Yep, the former 5-star who transferred from Kansas after his freshman year. He's putting up a ho-hum 17.7 and 7.0 rebounds per game. Then there's Kelvin Sampson. Perhaps no coach in America has done a better 180 than Sampson. He got fired from Indiana with a bunch of allegations for calling recruits too much, which isn't even illegal anymore. Just hilarious for Sampson. Instead he landed at Houston and has turned the Cougars into the best program in the AAC right now. They were a Tyler Herro dagger three from making an Elite Eight. They were a Jordan Poole buzzer beater from making a Sweet 16. They are the favorites to win the AAC again this year - hope you jumped on them in the preseason when I gave them out at plus value for the conference. Along with that, Sampson is one of the best guard coaches in America. Just look at the guys that have gone through the program under him - Rob Gray, Damyean Dotson, Galen Robinson, Corey Davis, Armani Brooks and now Grimes/Marcus Sasser.

As for where Mills ends up? It's a major storyline for next season. He chose Houston over Marquette, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia Tech. But he's from North Carolina and already have people linking him to UNC. He's going to be the most sought-after transfer, probably even more than Big Oscar T. He's that damn good. This season is weird already and somehow keeps getting weirder.
