Mammoth Lakes is a ski town that heavily depends on tourists to survive during a normal year. Now we’re in month 9 of the pandemic and lodging has entirely shut down, which is what has hurt us the most this month. With the recent stay at home order in California just being extended and also with no end in sight, it has crushed sales during the month of December. Being a business in Mammoth Lakes, you learn to depend on crucial times of year to make money to save in order to make it through our slower times. I’ve been doing just that for the last 10 years. But, with December being as bad as it was and on top of just being in shoulder season, we are hurting like never before.

I have a small staff of just 6, but one that I heavily rely on and they also rely on me. I’ve kept them with their normal schedule and normal hours, and instead I haven’t been paying myself. I’ve been hustling freelance when I can and have had to dip into my own savings, and I am still at the bakery every single day like I normally would be. I’m there for them as much as they are there for me. And I refuse to let them go.

My main expense is payroll, it’s what I spend the most money on. It would be the easiest thing to let go and save money that way, but without my staff I can’t serve our community or run the bake shop in a normal way.

I would be so grateful for any amount of support to help keep paying my staff. We lost over $10K in revenue during this month due to the new stay at home order, and that is my whole payroll for almost 2 months. We are a small shop, and a small business, but that small amount of money will keep paying the salaries of my staff who count on it in order to keep living.

Thank you so much for doing what you can to help any small business. I know everyone needs help, and we’re just one in a million. But we are a staple within our small mountain town community. I am grateful for your passion, heart, and goodwill in general even if we are not chosen.
