UPDATED: Ranking 2020 Falcons Losses With Greater Than 95 Percent Win Probabilities
I originally published this blog in October when the Falcons suffered their third loss of the season in which they had a win probability of at least 95 percent. It took a couple months, but we were finally able to add a fourth game to that list on Sunday after Atlanta turned a 24-7 second half lead over the Buccaneers into a 31-27 loss. So now it's time to take Sunday's loss and see how it stacks up to the others of its ilk from this season.
1. Cowboys 40, Falcons 39
Losing this football game will take the cake for quite a while as far as absurd losses go. An entire kickoff return team didn't think they were allowed to touch the ball until it went 10 yards. I mean, how in the world does a coaching staff have a team that unprepared? I will never not get mad when I see that clip.
2. Lions 23, Falcons 22
This is art, to be honest. No other professional team could lose a game because their running back realized too late that the other team was trying to let him into the end zone and stumbles in, curling up in the fetal position, only for the opponent to march right down the field and score on the last play of the game. All you can do is laugh.
3. Bears 30, Falcons 26
This was just your run-of-the-mill blown 16-point lead in the fourth quarter. At least the other two had plays that made them interesting and noteworthy. This was just an ass-kicking for 15 minutes than resulted in a loss. If nothing else, we gave Big Dick Nick his moment in the Sun.
4. Buccaneers 31, Falcons 27
I feel exactly the same about this game as I did about the Bears game. Except this time, it came in Week 15 for a team that was already eliminated from playoff contention and had nobody invested at all. Blowing a 24-7 lead to Tom Brady might have made me upset two months ago, but I was actually glad it happened at this point. It's all about the draft pick.
So we have two more opportunities to update this list this year. Here's hoping we get at least one more epic Falcons collapse to end 2020.
